BS10 Table D Flange

Table D flanges, also called BS10 Table D flanges, are the lightest of the three BS10 tables we hold. They’re most often used to replace flanges on older British pipework. We supply them in 304L and 316L, as flat face slip-on and blind flanges, up to 24 inch. Each BS10 table has its own drilling and thickness, so check the table letter on your old flange before you order, because Table D can’t stand in for Table E or Table F. If you’re not sure which table you need, you can look through all of our BS10 flange tables or compare Table E and Table F.

Which BS10 Table D flange do you need?

Table D flanges come in slip-on and blind form. A slip-on flange slides over the pipe and is welded in place, and a blind flange closes off the end of a line. You can choose 304L for general pipework, or 316L if the line carries chlorides, such as salt water, because the added molybdenum helps it resist pitting.

BS10 flanges are usually marked with BS10 and their table letter. If your old flange has no markings, measure the bolt circle diameter, count the bolt holes and send us the details, and we’ll help you work out which table it matches.

Where is a Table D flange used?

BS10 covers flanges for services such as steam, oil, compressed air and water, and many UK plants were built to it. Table D is the lightest of the three tables, so it’s usually specified when an older flange on existing pipework needs replacing. The table sets the drilling and thickness, which is why we match on the table letter and not on size alone.

Should you choose BS10 or EN1092-1?

For new pipework, EN1092-1 flanges are the current European standard. BS10 Table D is the one to choose when you need to match existing plant, so the right choice usually depends on what you’re connecting to. Check which standard the existing flange follows before you order, because the drilling usually differs between the two.

What should you tell us when you enquire?

Each BS10 table sets its own drilling and thickness, so please tell us:

1. The table letter marked on your old flange, which is D for this range.

2. The size.

3. The flange type, either slip-on or blind.

4. The grade, either 304L or 316L.

5. How many you need.

If you don’t know the table, send us the outside diameter, the bolt circle diameter (the circle that runs through the centres of the bolt holes), the number and size of the bolt holes and the thickness.

Frequently asked questions

What does the L in 304L and 316L mean?

L stands for low carbon. The lower carbon content makes these grades less prone to corrosion around welds, which helps when a flange is welded in place.

Do Table D flanges need a gasket and bolts?

Yes. Like any bolted flange joint, a Table D flange needs a gasket between the faces, plus bolts and nuts. Check these suit a flat face flange of the same table before you order.

Is Table D suitable for hygienic pipework?

Table D isn’t the one we stock for hygienic O/D pipe. For that, look at Table E, which we stock to suit hygienic O/D pipe and fittings.
